F.C Home Inspectors Code of Ethics

Integrity, honesty, and objectivity are fundamental principles embodied by this Code, which sets forth obligations of ethical conduct for the home inspection profession. F.C. Inspectors promote a high standard of professionalism, and business ethics, in-home inspection procedures.

F.C. Inspectors members hold themselves to the following Code of Conduct during their businesses.

 Duty to the Public

  1. The F.C. Inspectors member shall not engage in any practices that could be damaging to the public or bring discredit to themselves or the inspection industry.
  2. F.C.  Inspectors members shall be fair, honest, and impartial, and act in good faith in dealing with the public.
  3. The F.C. Inspectors member shall not discriminate in any business activities based on age, race, color, religion, gender, national origin, familial status, sexual orientation, political affiliation, or handicap, and shall comply with all federal, state, and local laws concerning discrimination.
  4. The F.C. Inspectors member shall be truthful regarding all his/her services and qualifications.
  5. The F.C. Inspectors member shall not:
    1. Have a conflict of interest with the client.
    2. Accept additional monies from inspection customers.
    3. Falsify any inspection report whatsoever.
  6. The F.C. Inspectors member shall not release any information about the inspection or the client, unless doing so is necessary to protect the safety of others and to comply with a law or statute.
  7. The F.C. Inspectors member shall always act in the interests of the client unless doing so violates a law, statute, or this Code of Ethics.
  8. The F.C. Inspectors member shall use a written contract that specifies the services to be performed, limitations of services, and fees.
  9. The F.C. Inspectors member shall comply with all government rules and licensing requirements of the jurisdiction where he or she conducts business.
  10. The F.C. Inspectors member shall not perform or offer to perform, for an additional fee, any repairs, or associated services to the structure for which the member or member’s company has prepared a home inspection report for a period of 12 months.  

Duty to Continue Education

The F.C.  Inspectors member who has earned the Certified Home Inspector designation shall comply with all current state Continuing Education requirements.

Duty to the Profession and to F.C. Inspectors

The F.C. Inspectors member shall strive to improve the home inspection industry by sharing his/her lessons and/or experiences for the benefit of all. This does not preclude the member from copyrighting or marketing his/her expertise to other Inspectors or the public in any manner permitted by law.
